Clip Art describes any graphic images that don’t come from photographs but, instead come from internet, scanned or CD images. These ready-made images are most commonly used to illustrate web pages, magazines or newspapers. Images not considered to be clip art would be any animated examples, such as screensavers or other forms of flash media.
While most clip art images are available in the public domain, meaning that the public can freely use them, copyright laws may limit the way in which they are used. However, such limitations tend to exist on corporate logos, rather than stock clip art or unaffiliated objects.
Libraries of clip art are particularly useful for non-artistic people looking to illustrate a particular document. Other terms for clip art are raster or vector graphics. Although some online clip art libraries are free, others require users to pay monthly or annual subscriptions.
